EARLY-ACCESS GUIDE · UPDATED 3 October 2026
How RemnantRack works
From a measured, labelled offcut to a reserved piece, a recorded cut and a labelled remainder back on the rack.
This guide describes the service scope. Access and the workflow supported for your site are confirmed during onboarding.
Register and put away
At the station, scan or select the exact material, enter the measured usable length and its uncertainty, the condition and any known batch. The approved rules decide whether the piece is kept and which rack it belongs in, and show why. Registering creates the piece and its label. It becomes available only after the label is attached, scanned with its bin card and the put-away is confirmed.
Find and reserve
For a job, choose the material, the finished blank length and how many blanks, plus any accepted condition or required batch. RemnantRack shows the full length calculation, then lists eligible pieces with their location, measured and guaranteed length, spare length and why they were ranked. Searching holds nothing. Reserving a piece holds it for you, for 30 minutes by default.
Check out and cut
At the rack, scan the reserved piece and its bin and check it out before removing it. After the work, record the result: a cut with the blanks produced, the material lost and any measured remainder; the whole piece used; or the piece returned unchanged. A remainder gets a new identity and label and goes through put-away like any other piece.
Move, correct and check
Moving a piece records its new bin and refreshes its label. Correcting a length, condition or material is a deliberate action with the old and new values and a reason. Rack checks compare what is physically on a rack section with the register, and missing pieces stay out of search until they are resolved.
