EARLY-ACCESS GUIDE · UPDATED 3 October 2026
Keep rules, ranking and SmartFACT
Turn plain English rules into approved, automatic decisions on which offcuts to keep, where they go and which piece a job uses.
This guide describes the service scope. Access and the workflow supported for your site are confirmed during onboarding.
What the rules decide
Approved rules apply automatically at two moments:
- When a piece is registered or returned: keep it, send it to disposal review or quarantine it, and which rack and bin it should go to.
- When a job searches: which pieces a particular use may take, such as excluding surface-marked pieces for visible work, and how candidates are ranked: shortest that fits, oldest first or a preferred rack order.
From plain English to a working rule
Choose the outcome, then describe when it applies, such as “A17 aluminium lengths from 450 mm upwards”. SmartFACT turns the description into a precise condition on the fields RemnantRack supplies: material, length, condition, batch and use. Every length in a rule is shown with its unit, and an unclear unit is questioned, never guessed. A structured editor gives the same result without AI.
Limits no rule can change
Rules narrow and rank the eligible pieces. They cannot add a piece that fails the hard checks: the exact material, an accepted condition and batch, a confirmed place on the rack and enough guaranteed length. A rule cannot substitute a material, reserve a piece, mark one as used or physically scrap it. Disposal is always a person's decision.
Approve once, apply to every piece
Your team checks examples, including lengths just short of a threshold and both units, then releases the rules with a recent second-factor check. RemnantRack applies them exactly as approved, with no AI call in the workshop. A piece already checked out keeps the rules it started with.
