Measurements, cuts and rack accuracy
How RemnantRack records exact lengths, balances each cut and keeps the register in step with what is on the rack.
This guide describes the service scope. Access and the workflow supported for your site are confirmed during onboarding.
Exact lengths and allowances
Lengths entered in millimetres or inches are converted exactly and never rounded to make a match. Each measurement has a declared uncertainty, and the guaranteed length is the measured length less that uncertainty. A job's required length adds the finished blanks, processing allowance, one kerf per blank, trim and any setup buffer, and every term is shown.
What a cut records
A cut records the blanks actually produced, the material lost to kerf and trim and the measured remainder, if one is worth keeping. The original piece is retired and the remainder gets a new identity linked to it. One cut returns at most one reusable remainder.
When the numbers do not balance
If the recorded blanks, losses and remainder do not add up to the original piece within the declared uncertainty, ordinary completion stops and the operation is held for a supervisor. The entered values are kept as a proposal, and nothing becomes available until the discrepancy is resolved truthfully.
Rack checks and missing pieces
A rack check covers a fixed section. Scan what is there to record expected pieces seen, unexpected pieces and unreadable labels. Pieces not seen are reported as missing, not deleted, and stay out of search until they are found or written off by a supervisor.
Names that mean what they say
Reserved, checked out, used and returned are separate events. A reserved piece is still on the rack, a printed label does not make a piece available, and an expired reservation never sends a piece that is in use back to the rack.
